Vermicompost
Vermicompost is sometimes called vermicast, worm compost or worm castings.
What exactly is vermicompost?
Vermicompost is basically organic matter that has been broken down by earthworms and microorganisms. By the time the organic matter has passed thru a worm it can be used as a very valuable soil amendment and is a source of plant nutrients.
Vermicompost creates healthier, bigger plants that produce bigger yields in the garden. A healthy plant is more resistant to bugs and disease.
We went to a worm conference in North Carolina that Rhonda Sherman put on. One of her guest speakers was talking about a study he did to determine what amount of vermicast is best to use with plants. After extensive study, he determined that 20% vermicompost in a mix creates optimum use of it.
So what is the best way to use vermicompost ?
It can be used several ways. When first starting your garden, you can use approximately 20% of vermicast to the amount of soil you have. Another way to use is what is called top dressing. The plants will have already come up. Just sprinkle about 1/4 to 1/2” thick around each plant and water it in. You can do this 2-3 times during the growing season.
Prices for Vermicompost
1-10 lbs – $5/lbs
11-20lbs – $4/lbs
21-49 lbs – $3/lbs
50-100 lbs $2/lbs
Pasture Raised Eggs
You will taste an immediate difference between our pasture raised eggs and grocery store eggs. On the exterior of the egg carton it says Farm Fresh Eggs and that is exactly what we have. They have lots of flavor and more nutrients than what you can buy over the counter at most grocery stores. Our chickens are on pasture which creates these beautiful orange yolks in the eggs. Once you try them, it may be hard to go back to grocery store eggs.
